01/27/2012 – Carrizo Springs (Dimmitt County) 10K

This is a seasonal event (Jan-Jun) hosted by the Texas County Walkers (walktx.org).  We drove to the Texan Inn and registered.  We took a set of directions that told us to drive to the walk start which was the city park.  We had beautiful walking weather.  It was warm and sunshiny.  The walk started out by going around the walking track in the park circling a very nice veteran’s memorial.   Leaving the park we walked to the high school and circled it.  We headed back to the old main street with its historical buildings and then headed out to some cemeteries.  We walked through a couple of the cemeteries.  We saw a petrified log that was used as a marker, which I thought was very unusual.  The walk then took us by Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church which is a lovely Spanish style building.  It was very impressive.  To get us back to where our vehicle was parked they took us through a different section of the old downtown passing the historic jail and the Dimmit County Courthouse.  The courthouse was originally built in 1883, but it was remodeled and changed up in 1920.  There is a picture website at http://2012.walktx.org/CarrizoSprings
