02/25/2012 – Anahuac (Chambers County) 10K

This was a regular one day event hosted by the Houston Happy Hikers (houstonhappyhikers.com).  Our weather was cool, but not really cold.  Anahuac started out as a Fort.   Fort Anahuac was built but the Mexican Government in 1830 to keep more Americans from coming to settle in Texas.  Conflict that erupted here spurred the drive for Texas Independence.  The walk started at the Fort Anahuac park pavilion.  It went uptown to the Chambers County Courthouse and returned to the park.  Going the other way from the park the walk went along the Trinity River and back.  There is a picture website at:  http://2012.walktx.org/Anahuac
